Dr. Bertram has enjoyed working as a specialist to treat nerve, joint, and muscle disorders and injuries for 20 years. He is Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pain Medicine Subspecialty, and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He has special interests in minimally invasive spine surgeries for long-term control of pain resulting from osteoporotic spine fractures, disc herniations, nerve pain syndromes, and intractable arthritic spine pain.

After receiving his Bachelor’s of Science in Biology and medical degrees at Loyola University of Chicago and Loyola Stritch School of Medicine, Dr. Bertram accomplished specialty training at Northwestern University’s Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, In addition to receiving awards for excellence in medical research, he is published in respected surgical, electrodiagnostic, pain medicine, and rehabilitation journals, including landmark studies to accurately identify patients with complex regional pain syndrome. After residency, he served honorably in the Air Force as Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Wright-Patterson Medical Center and reached the rank of Major, also teaching Wright State University medical students during that time. He then founded Springfield Spine & Sport, working there for the next 16 years, raising a family, and assisting The Ohio State University as Associate Clinical Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, lecturing and providing specialty instruction on injury management and interventional procedures. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
