Dr. Kunkel earned his B.S. degree in physiology from Cornell University and his D.V.M. from Colorado State University. After four years in private practice, Dr. Kunkel began his specialty training. He completed a rotating small animal internship at Oklahoma State University and a small animal surgery internship at VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Connecticut. He joined VCA Animal Specialty Center of South Carolina in 2007 and completed his residency and board certification in 2012. His clinical and research interests include both soft tissue and orthopedic surgery with special interests in cruciate disease and orthopedic implants.
