An Anesthesiologist is a doctor who provides pain relief during and immediately following a surgical or diagnostic procedure. He or she will evaluate a patient before the procedure, determine the pain relief that is needed, monitor and stabilize the patient during the procedure, and oversee their return to a normal conscious state afterwards. An Anesthesiologist can also treat debilitating injuries or chronic conditions such as cancer through pain management, such as medications and analgesics
