A native of San Antonio, Jim Fernandez is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (“PM&R”) and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas and received his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock and El Paso in 1997. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Fernandez practices PM&R, also known as Physiatry, which is a non-surgical specialty, treating all musculoskeletal issues, including neck and back, with conservative therapies.

I am an avid marathoner and runner who has hip issues. I have been a patient of Dr. Fernandez for several years. I cannot say enough positive things about his knowledge, ability to treat and explain my diagnosis, as well as his super kind and caring manner. He is an excellent doctor. I crashed my bike 4 days before my first Ironman. Dr. Fernandez fit me in immediately. Because of the care he gave me I was able to leave for Houston right after the office visit and compete in 48 hours. He gave me peace of mind knowing that I did not fracture a spinous process in my back and that I would not cause irreparable damage to myself if I could handle the pain.
