Dr. Bernstein attended the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania majoring in Bioengineering. He graduated magna cum lauda and was elected to the Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honors Society. Orthopaedic related research during his college years included work on ACL matrix scaffolding and anthropomorphic design.
Dr. Bernstein graduated Georgetown University Medical School with honors and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honors society. Following medical school, he completed his general surgery internship at New York University Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital Center. During residency at the New York University/Hospital for Joint Diseases-Orthopaedic Institute, he participated in extensive orthopaedic research. Dr. Bernstein’s research culminated with authoring publications in the following peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals: The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Arthroscopy, The Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, The American Journal of Orthopedics, Orthopedics, and the Bulletin of the Hospital for Joint Diseases. In his final year of residency, Dr. Bernstein was awarded a Senior Resident Research Award from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at NYU/HJD.
