Dr. Appleman was thrilled to return to the Animal Medical Center to join the Internal Medicine Service back in 2011. Dr Appleman performed all of her veterinary training in the northeast, alternating between New York City and Philadelphia. After completing her internal medicine residency at the University of Pennsylvania, she worked as a staff internist at Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists for three years. She is currently acting as interim chief of the Internal Medicine Service at the AMC. Dr. Appleman’s particular interests include endocrinology, diabetes mellitus, hematology, transfusion medicine and autoimmune diseases. She is currently working on several research projects, including evaluation of insulin administration in hospitalized diabetic cats, and the use of trilostane in dogs with Cushing’s disease. She has also performed research on the feasibility of platelet cryopreservation in dogs.
