Dr Bender completed his undergraduate studies at Temple University receiving a B.A. in Biochemistry. He earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Following dental school, Dr Bender joined the U.S. Air Force and was commissioned as a Captain. He completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton Virginia. Dr Bender was transferred to Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico where he practiced general dentistry for four and a half years.Dr Bender did his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base California. This military based program has a strong emphasis in orthognathic, dental implant and cosmetic facial surgery.
