Dr. Lyons was raised in eastern Ohio and attended Ohio State University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree. He then continued on to obtain his Medical Doctorate from Ohio State University College of Medicine.

After graduation Dr. Lyons joined the US Army for his internship at Madigan Army Hospital, Fort Lewis, Washington. He then entered a three year Diagnostic Radiology residency at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Denver, Colorado, where he received his certification from the American Board of Radiology.
