Heather Benson grew up in southern New Mexico, obtaining her Bachelor’s of Community Health Education from New Mexico State University. She then moved to Louisiana to attend Tulane University for her Master’s of Public Health in Epidemiology. She obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University in 2006. Her professional interests include internal medicine and feline medicine.

Dr. Benson has two Great Danes (George and Spicoli) and a mixed-breed tripod (Kickstand). She has four cats: Milagro, Cleo, Killian (an Abyssinian) and Jethro Jameson. She also has two tortoises. In her free time she enjoys reading as well as Saints and LSU Tigers football.
