Dr. Smith is a Michigan native who earned his undergraduate degree graduating with honors from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He remained in Ann Arbor to attend the University of Michigan Medical School. Dr. Smith completed a surgical internship at the University of Michigan Medical Center as well as his orthopaedic residency. Upon finishing his residency, he was awarded the “Parke-Davis Research Award” at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Smith joined Columbia Orthopaedic Group in 1986 and specializes in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine. He has served as the Head Team Physician for the University of Missouri athletic department since 1991; he recently received the “Sports Medicine Hall of Fame Award” by the Missouri Athletic Trainer’s Association for outstanding service, dedication and contribution in the field of Sports Medicine (June 2010).
