Dr. Wise received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Emory University in 1971. He went on to obtain his Certificate in Periodontics from Boston University in 1973, and then completed his Certificate in Orthodontics in 1977, also at Boston University. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.

Dr. Wise is a past faculty member and lecturer of the Departments of Orthodontics and Periodontics at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, from 1993 to 2010. He currently lectures at the Department of Periodontics and Prosthodontics at Tufts University. He has presented more than 200 lectures in the US and throughout the world on the interrelationship between Adult Orthodontics, Periodontics, and Restorative Dentistry. He has also written four textbook chapters and has authored numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals.
