Dr. Varma is an assistant Clinical Professor of Spine Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedics at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He received his bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and then attended medical school at The University of Maryland. He then went on to The University of Connecticut for a 5-year residency in Orthopaedic Surgery.
After serving as Chief Resident, he completed a year of Sports Medicine treating Division I college and professional athletes. He then went on to a comprehensive fellowship at the San Diego Center for Spinal Disorders in both pediatric and adult spine surgery. Dr. Varma received his training under the direct tutelage of Dr. Behrooz Akbarnia, world-renowned spine surgeon and former president of the Scoliosis Research Society, the leading society for complex spine surgery.
