Dr. Sims grew up in Coeur d’Alene and counts it a great privilege to practice Orthopedics in his hometown. He graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School and gained his undergraduate degree in Zoology from the University of Idaho. As a member of the WAMI program, he attended the University of Washington Medical School. He completed Orthopedic Surgery residency at the University of Washington in 2002.

After residency he gained further specialized training in an accredited Sports Medicine Fellowship with Dr. Champ Baker of the Hughston Clinic at a specialty Sports Medicine Hospital in Columbus GA. His goal was always to return home to the Coeur d’Alene area and serve his home community.
