Dr. Joseph J. Mesa was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware and graduated from Salesianum High School. He then went on to St. Joseph’s University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Upon graduation, Dr. Mesa went on to Jefferson Medical College where he obtained his Doctorate of Medicine in 1994.

Throughout college and medical school Dr. Mesa was and avid rugby player and captained the team during his senior year of college. After obtaining his degree, Dr. Mesa underwent a one year research fellowship at the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia. During that year Dr. Mesa had numerous orthopedic research articles published.
