Dr. Murphy is a Montgomery native. He graduated from Furman University Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He then graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Medical School. Dr. Murphy completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Internship and Residency at the Greenville Hospital System/ University of South Carolina.

In Greenville, Dr Murphy had the opportunity to train with famed Shoulder specialist Dr. Richard Hawkins. He then continued his education with Fellowships at the Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Jackson, MS and the Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine in New Orleans. There he worked alongside internationally recognized shoulder specialists Drs Felix Savoie and Larry Field.
