Dr. Smith is a hematologist and medical oncologist, specializing in treatment of lymphoma. He received his M.D. degree from the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California in 2002, and completed internal medicine residency at Los Angeles County/USC in 2005. He then completed a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the Cleveland Clinic in 2008. Since 2013, he has served as a UW associate professor at the University of Washington, and associate member of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

He treats lymphoma patients at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, where he conducts clinical research testing new lymphoma therapies. A member of the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Dr. Smith remains active in teaching, review of manuscripts, and publication of original research on lymphoma prognosis and therapy.
