Dr. Appleby graduated from the University of South Carolina in Columbia and then attended the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) here in Charleston.

After graduating, he completed a General Surgery Residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Ohio, where he received the Max Zinninger Award for Excellence in Surgery. While at the University of Cincinnati, he also served as a Resident Representative in the Department of Surgery.

Following his residency, he attended a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
